What is Board and Batten?

Board and batten is a type of wall treatment that consists of alternating wide boards and narrow strips of wood, called battens. The boards are placed vertically, with the battens covering the seams between them.

This style creates a textured, three-dimensional effect and is commonly used in both exterior and interior design. It originated as a practical solution for sealing gaps in wooden walls but has become popular for its rustic, farmhouse aesthetic and architectural interest in various home styles.

Adding Hooks for Functionality

I love what they did here with the 1×2 inch board on top acting as a ledge and the black hooks to hang items.

Plain Jane

This option is really simple, but gives a little oomph to the room. I would’ve replaced the original baseboards with the same style, but to each their own!

Simple Half Wall

This one is nicely done with a ledge on the top and added trim on the baseboards. It’s giving elegant traditional vibes.

A Touch of Gray

This style is simple, but it’s effect comes in at the contrasting gray color. I’m not a fan of the quarter-round addition at the baseboard.

Floor to Ceiling

It’s a brave choice to take this look up the entire wall, but I love the pink color.

Accent Wall

This option is floor to ceiling, but they made it an accent wall instead of doing the whole room. The color is a little dark, but this would work well in rooms with great lighting.
