Apartment Therapy: the January Cure 2024
The January Cure is one of Apartment Therapy’s longest traditions of helping you reset your living space for the upcoming year. See how my progress stacked up this year while cleaning my home during The January Cure 2024!
What is The January Cure 2024?
The January Cure before is a free 18-day program (last year it was 20 days) from Apartment Therapy dedicated to help you love your home. It gives you one task each day to help you prepare your space for the new year – all without stressing you out.
Cleaning and organizing your home doesn’t have to overwhelm you! If you don’t know where to start then this is a good assignment for you to take on. Once you sign up for the email list, you’ll receive one task each day during the week. There are no tasks on the weekends. But, if you’re like me, you’ll probably get busy during the week and end up completing some tasks on the weekend.
January Cure 2024 Summary
If this is your first time participating, then you’ll want to take your time with the tasks! Apartment Therapy tends to keep the tasks super specific so they aren’t overwhelming. These tasks can be handled in a short amount of time. But they also want you to think of a bigger “project” that you’ll want to focus your time and energy into this month that will help you feel refreshed and renewed!
I think the tasks are designed to be small that you can “get over the hurdle” of getting started. The January Cure is a great way to get over the busy-ness of the Holidays and set you up right in the new year!
Week 1
- Day 1: Make a Vision Board for Your Home – I did not do this. I don’t have any magazines around the house or have a color printer to print pictures out.
- Day 2: Declutter One Drawer and Setup an Outbox – I already created an outbox in the spare bedroom over the holidays. It’s still there, haha, so I’m ready for this challenge.
- Day 3: Clean the Floors and Treat Yourself – I vacuumed the entire house when I put away our Christmas decor.
Week 2
- Day 4: Create a To-Do List and Pick a Project – I created a small to-do list. I really want to wash the bathroom floor, so that is top on my list. I’ve been dealing with breaking floors throughout the house, so that will be my project. I’m just trying to file a warranty with the brand of our floors, but it’s a headache.
- Day 5: Do a Closet Cleanout – Since I already cleaned out my closet when we did our closet makeover, I’ll be skipping this one.
- Day 6: Kick off a Living Room Reset – I removed a bunch of dog toys and I have a chair listed on Facebook Marketplace.
- Day 7: Clear Expired Things From All Over Your Home – This is one of my favorite tasks. I like to clean out the medicine cabinet and the condiments in the fridge. It’s also a good reminder to replace the baking soda inside the fridge.
- Day 8: Clean the Kitchen and Treat Yourself – I have not cleaned the kitchen, but I added it to my to-do list.
Week 3
- Day 9: Find and Frame Some Art – I ended up skipping this one.
- Day 10: Work On Your Project – I’ve worked on it a little bit every day this week.
- Day 11: Get Your Sofa into Shape – It takes a strong arm to get my pillows back into a puffy shape!
- Day 12: Do a 3 Minute Surface Sweep – I try to do this every day (at least in the kitchen!)
- Day 13: Clean the Bedroom and Treat Yourself – I need to wash the sheets, but I’ve been falling behind.
Week 4
- Day 14: Setup a Home Landing Strip – We have the cabinets in the entryway.
- Day 15: Get the Bathroom Tidy – I keep all my face lotions on top of the counter, so I can never seem to keep this space clean.
- Day 16: Take Stock of Your Linens – I only have two fitted sheets (one for on the bed and one to go in the wash, then cabinet).
- Day 17: Reset Your Living Room and Empty The Outbox – I did a good vacuum on the rugs.
- Day 18: Relax and Enjoy Your Home! – We can’t because we’re going to replace our flooring. 🙁
January Cure 2024 Final Thoughts
I spent most of January trying to get our flooring fixed, but to no avail.
I didn’t end up finishing this year’s January Cure. There’s always next year!
Cheers,
Katie
